Banners in the Terrace Winners 2009

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s Banners in The Terrace Competition.

Shire of Kalamunda Director of Community Development said, “The entrants were invited to respond to the theme of ‘Innovation and sustainability’ and the kids came up with many quirky, imaginative and useful innovations. The ideas are as bright as the colours that they have used, making it very hard to judge, but very enjoyable to look at. I would like to congratulate everyone who participated; the standard of entries was extremely high!”

Eleanor Carpenter, from Kalamunda High, wins first place, taking home a cheque for $100. Her design features bright, eye-catching diagonal lines, and Kalamunda icons such as the gum-nut fountain and the Carmel observatory. Her design will go on display on St George’s Terrace in August as part of Local Government Week and goes into the finals to be judged state-wide. Well done Eleanor, and good luck in the finals!

Adele Kelly of Maida Vale Primary wins $50 in second place, with a charming pencil drawing of pink blossoms and gum nuts.

Lucy Rose Warren from Lesmurdie Primary took third place, with a wonderfully detailed sketch of the town, including a stream full of fish and wind turbines on the hill.

Special mentions must go to the following kids for their inventive thinking and savvy designing skills:
Jarrod Malcovich, with a wacky design featuring a sky full of licking tongues and an Icecream That Never Melts.
Tahilia Searle, for a lolly-pink Remote Control Boat for Fun
Lachlan Read for his cheerful and industrious Food Collector for Sick People
Dylan Britton-Bonjekovic for Rubbish Robot – a sensible idea, and a lovely design!
Reece Garland, for Metro the Robot – he makes old things new.
Ivona Milotinovich, for her beautiful depiction of a park in Happy Kids Play Here.
Claire Warren, for a revolutionary medical device; the Double Trolley with Self-Cleaning.
