The Shire’s Health Service is responsible for approving and licensing a wide variety of operations within the Shire of Kalamunda. These include:
- Catteries and Kennels
- Caravan Parks
- Food Premises
- Hairdressers
- Lodging Houses
- Offensive Trades (Eg Manure Works, Piggeries and Poultry Farms)
- Public Events
- Public Buildings
- Skin Penetration Premises (eg Beauticians, Tattooists, Nail Salons and Acupuncturists)
- Stall Holders & Traders
- Temporary Food Stalls
- Wastewater Disposal Systems

Food Premises
For information on purchasing an existing food premises or opening a new food premises, please see the Food Premises Page.
Temporary Food Stalls & Village Markets
Wherever food is sold or provided to the public, approval is required from the Shire’s Health Service. This includes approval for one off events such as sausage sizzles or ongoing events such as the village markets. Hairdressers and Skin Penetration/Beauticians
Hairdressers and skin penetration premises, such as beauticians, tattooists, nail salons and acupuncturists, need to comply with certain legislative requirements. Wastewater Disposal
The Shire’s Health Service receives all applications for wastewater disposal which includes; conventional septic tank and leach drain systems, alternative treatment units and greywater disposal applications. Public Events
Public events are exciting occasions for the community and are a culmination of much hard work and careful planning. If you are organising a public event, or would like information on what is involved, please see the below page to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible and complies with all Shire requirements.
Other Licences
The Shire’s Health Service licenses offensive trades (Eg manure works, piggeries and poultry farms), caravan parks, stall holders and traders, lodging houses, catteries and kennels.
A letter is sent to current licence holders at the start of the financial year advising when renewal is due; this includes an application form and an invoice for the financial year.
