City Status

7 December 2016: Council requests to become a city
The Shire of Kalamunda Council has requested the Minister for Local Government and Communities, to issue an order under the Local Government Act 1995 for a change of designation from Shire to City. [read full media statement here]

18 January 2017: Notice of Meeting: Special Meeting of Electors
The purpose of the meeting and order of business is to consider a Petition from Electors of the Shire of Kalamunda to request the Council of the Shire of Kalamunda to withdraw its request to the Minister for Local Government and communities to change the designation of the Shire to a City. History

28 April 2015
The Shire of Kalamunda Council has endorsed a move to pursue City Status, along with a possible change of name and popular election of the Mayor. Council unanimously endorsed a proposal at its monthly meeting on 28 April 2015.

The Shire of Kalamunda has sought feedback about the proposal, with the Community Survey closed on 15th September 2015.
